My Stalkers

if you're raised with an angry man in your house, there will always be an angry man in your house. you will find him even when he is not there. and if one day you find that there is no angry man in your house - well, you will go find one and invite him in! One of Granta's Best Young American novelists, Catherine Lacey, author of Biography of X, showcases her narrative mastery in this elegiac and inspired collection. A woman sets out to scale a mountain composed entirely of semiconscious adult men; Peggy dreams that the tiny cut in her groin will eventually split her in two; when a woollen coat appears inexplicably in a woman's attic, she struggles to come up with a story for how it could have arrived in her life; when Louise passes out on an airplane, she finds an unexpected connection with a stranger; an academic conference relocates to a hospital after a mass-shooting injures several of its speakers. My Stalkers captures an uncanny human landscape in nine tales that are as masterful, funny, thoughtful and resonant as they are surreal and unforgettable, and further establishes Catherine Lacey as one of the singular literary voices of her generation.
